God’s plan for your body and what the devil thinks about it

‘Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship.’ – Romans 12:1 AMP

Have you ever wondered why God created and gave you a body? Do you think your body is important to Him? Many people have never really thought about that question, but it is important that you should. The actual purpose of this post is to let you know what God’s design for your body is and how He expects you to respond. As far as God is concerned, your body is not just a piece of skin with lots of hair, some nails, some teeth, flesh and bones – the human body is special to God and has a grander purpose than enjoying the pleasures of eating, drinking, sleeping and engaging in sexual intercourse with one’s wife or husband.

You are a lot more than what you really think you are, or what you have been made to believe by advertisement agencies offering body products. The Bible verse (quoted above) shows that God has a plan for your body, but He first needs you to dedicate it to Him and let Him be the Lord of it, and only then will His plan have the chance of being fulfilled!

Being a set apart man or woman for God

When you make a sacrifice to a cause or to an individual, you cannot reverse it – or at least you’re not expected to. Merriam–Webster dictionary describes a sacrifice as an act of offering to a deity something precious. This is exactly what God had in mind when He said to offer Him your body – a living sacrifice – completely. This means although you’re are fully alive, yet your body will now belong to Him. He doesn’t want a dead sacrifice but one that is alive and responsive to His divine influence.

Attending weekly church services is important, but more important is God’s desire that your body is holy and becomes a place where He could live in through the Holy Spirit. Nothing is more pleasing to God than a life fully yielded to Him – not just in mere words but also in practice. The earthly life of Christ shows us a perfect example of just how God intends for you to release your body to Him, helping you to fulfil His plans for your life.

Therefore when Christ enters into the world, He says, “Sacrifice and offering You have not desired, but [instead] You have prepared a body for Me [to offer]; Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God – [to fulfill what is written of Me in the scroll of the book.’ – Hebrews 10:5,7 AMP

Just like Christ, you should consider your body as something that God created for you to enable you carry out a particular part of His program on the earth! And this is simply the reason why you need to be set apart for God – who, from eternity – has reserved a spot for you in His plans. He specially prepared a body for you – not so that you can sin with it – but so that you would fulfill the destiny He has written and planned out for you in His book!

The merchant of the bodies and souls of men

‘And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].’ – Romans 12:2 AMP

God has created the human spirit, mind, and body for His own purposes, but the devil has a way of deceiving people and making them use their bodies for ungodly reasons. Like a merchant, satan trades the destinies of people by simply manipulating and influencing their minds and bodies through values and customs that are contrary to God’s set standards. He causes people to indulge in the sinful pleasures of the flesh such as overeating, sexual immorality, alcoholism, masturbation, homosexuality, drug abuse and many other addictive behaviors, and the more they yield to him, the farther away they get from discovering or fulfilling God’s best for their lives.

The devil likes to steal and twist God’s creation to his own advantage. Even a number of Christians are deceived by the devil, who makes them believe that all that God needs is their heart and they can do whatever they want with their bodies. The same way he tempted Eve in the garden of Eden with a half-truth and a sensual suggestion is the same way he seduces people today. Those who swallow satan’s lies [or his half-truths] open themselves to ungodly influences and therefore cannot please God or worship Him truthfully, neither can they fulfil God’s plan and purposes for their lives!

God wants more than just your heart

There are many people who assume that God only deals with the heart and has no business with their physical bodies. While there is an element of truth in such assumptions, it is based on mere wishful or humanistic thinking. Now, here’s the complete truth: God wants all your heart because it is the very center of your being (See Proverbs 4:23). There is no relationship or fellowship with God that does not require first giving your heart to Him.

Then the Lord said, ‘’Because this nation approaches [Me only] with their words and honors Me [only] with their lip service, but they remove their hearts far from Me, and their reverence for Me is a tradition that is learned by rote [without any regard for it meaning].’ – Isaiah 29:13 AMP

We cannot deceive God with empty words and lying lips, since He fully sees the hearts of men, and even know our thoughts before we can put them into words. As a matter of fact, giving God your heart is only the first step that you take in starting the lifetime journey of walking with God, however, there is more to it!

As an act of worship and obedience, God calls you to consecrate more of you to Him, He wants your entire being to be completely His – your heart, your mind, and your body. While this may not be achievable in a day, a week, or a year, nevertheless it is possible, or else God would not have said so in His word.

‘Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through [that is, separate you from profane and vulgar things, make you pure and whole and undamaged – consecrated to Him – set apart for His purpose]; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept complete and [be found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.’ – 1 Thessalonians 5:23 AMP

13 reasons why God wants (and is able to help you achieve) a holy body

  1. God has designed your body for Himself and wants you to represent Him on the earth as His ambassador (See 2 Corinthians 5:20).
  2. He created you in His image and likeness, and not the devil’s (See Genesis 1:26,27).
  3. He wants you to have dominion over the rest of creation on the earth and subdue them with His authority and power (See Genesis 1:28).
  4. He is holy and can only be worshipped by those who are holy both in their hearts and in their bodies (See 1 Corinthians 7:1).
  5. He wants sicknesses and diseases to be far from you through the life-giving power of Christ (See 1 Corinthians 15:45).
  6. He wants your body to be a temple where His Spirit can live in to strengthen you against the devil’s manipulations (See 1 Corinthians 6:19).
  7. He wants to be able to gain control over the carnal appetites of the body and overcome when the devil tries to put [ungodly] sensual feelings on you (See 1 Corinthians 6:12).
  8. He wants you to live a lust-free and a harm-free life, He wants you to be free from destructive addictions.
  9. He wants you to be able to handle the spiritual blessings He has for you (See Ephesians 1:3)
  10. He wants you to be able to walk in the gifts of the Holy Spirit (See 1 Corinthians 12:4-11).
  11. He wants you to have victory upon victory over the devil’s attacks against your health.
  12. He wants your body to be among those who will be raised to everlasting life on the resurrection day (See 1 Corinthians 6:13,14).
  13. He wants to work miracles through your body, such that by laying hands on people, sicknesses and diseases will be healed (See Mark 16:18).
