How to Make Money as a Christian

A lot of Christians frown at the thought of making money because they think it is evil. Yet the Bible tells us that it is the love of money that is a root of all kinds of evil (1 Timothy 6:10). Money is not evil, only when it has your heart. You can learn how to make money as a Christian by following the principles of God as you do so.

When you provide a service to others or sell them products, you get money in the form of income.    With the money, you can depend on yourself and also bless others (1 Thessalonians 4:11-12). God created you with the ability to produce wealth and this means that when you work, you will receive money as compensation. The only thing we need to note as Christians is that we use the principles of God when we are doing work that pays.

The following are ways that you can make money as a Christian.

1) Provide a Solution to a Group of People

People are looking for solutions to problems they are encountering in their lives and they are ready to pay for them. Your motivation to make the product or service is to help others by making their lives better. As a Christian, service comes first and then you will receive money for your hard work. The apostle Paul made tents when he was not preaching the gospel (Acts 18:1-4). He made tents for others wherever he went and he was a man who believed in earning an income to support himself.

2) Online Work

As more people are rendered jobless, and others have to work from home, online work becomes your saving grace. The beauty of online work is that you can look for projects that utilize your gifts and talents. Instead of going blindly into it, look for platforms that offer work that you would love to do, and for which you are gifted. This way, looking for work on the internet will not be overwhelming.

God gave us gifts and expects us to use them to serve others whether online or offline. “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms” (1 Peter 4:10).

3) Create a coaching or mentoring program

Many people are looking for guidance on how to do a particular thing for which you have the expertise. You can use that opportunity to create a course that will help them learn from you. If God has called you to coach or mentor others, you can do it in a structured way, and charge a fee for your services.

As you teach others what you know, ensure it lines up with the Word of God so that it can benefit others and bring them closer to God. Titus 2:1 tells us to teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine. Use the Word of God as you develop your content so that you will not teach others worldly principles but godly ones.

4) Arts and Crafts

Some Christians are gifted in arts and crafts and can use their talents to create beautiful and unique things that can earn them an income. There are many items that you can make and sell to others. These include crotchet items, handcrafted gifts and cards, children’s toys, coloring books, etc. If you are not able to make these things, you can source them from a supplier and sell them in church, your neighborhood, or at events and gatherings.

You can also use your social media accounts to advertise your products and find a way to deliver them to your customers. There was a woman in the Bible named Lydia who was a dealer in purple cloth and was noted as a worshiper of God (Acts 16:14). This shows that you can make money as a Christian without disobeying God.

5) Consultation Services

Many companies, institutions and organizations are looking for expert advice to help them become more profitable. You can offer your expertise in the area you have mastered over the years. If you are good with accounting, you can offer consultation services to freelancers or start-ups. You can help companies develop an online presence by offering digital consultation services. Pray and ask God to lead you to the right people who need your specialty and you will make money in the process. The kings of Babylon called upon Daniel to interpret their dreams and give them advice regarding governmental issues. As a result, he received promotions because he was an expert at what he did (Daniel 6:3).

6) Content Creation

We have many social and marketing platforms that people are using to create awareness about their products and services. You can help them by creating content for their blogs, podcasts, videos, etc. and make money while doing so. The type of content you choose to create depends on the area of your gifting, and what you enjoy doing.

God called Bezalel to make artistic designs for the Tabernacle as He had given him the skills to do so and had filled him with the Holy Spirit (Exodus 31:1-5). Offer your content creation skills as the Lord leads you because He knows who needs them.

7) Food Business

If you are gifted in cooking and baking, you can offer your services for a fee. You can make your food or pastries at home and sell them to those who are hosting parties, events or conferences. Start small and grow gradually so that you will learn the business well. One thing you can do to help you market your business is using your social media accounts or food delivery platforms. The prophet Jeremiah was to receive bread daily while he was in prison (Jeremiah 37:21). The bread came from the bakers street and this means there were people who were baking bread and selling it to others. The food business is a very lucrative one.

These are many more ways to make money as a Christian and you can ask God where you can begin the journey of receiving an income for your services.
