John 3:16 Way for the salvation of humanity

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

John 3:16 is the core verse for the Christian faith. This verse had done great miracles in the world. Many people who die without knowing the Savior who died for them came to know about the love of Christ through this verse. Thus, this verse is a life changer and also a life-giver for many people. The word of God does the purpose for which God has sent it. This verse is a witness to these words.

For God so loved the world:

The love of God for mankind is Agape love which is the purest form of love that sacrifices anything for the loved one. It is not like human love which expects something in return for its lovely act. The love of God won’t keep records of past mistakes. We cannot comprehend the width, length, depth, and height of God’s love (Ephesians 3:18).

God created man to serve Him and reflect His characteristics. So He created man in His own image and covered him with His glory. He loved them and had an intimate relationship with them. Every day He met them personally and conversed with them. But they disobeyed His words and so they were chased away from His presence and lost their relationship with God as God is Holy and cannot bear sin and wickedness (Habakkuk 1:13).

As our God so loved humanity, He gave them many statutes to follow and made covenants with them to bless them if they could live according to His words. But they always disobeyed Him and made Him angry.

God’s unconditional love for His people forgave them again and again and wanted them to repent back to Him. But they hardened their hearts and did not give importance to the motherly love of God for them (Matthew 23:37). He made a great plan for the salvation of the human race in which He offered His only begotten son as a sacrifice in the place of sinners who need to be punished.

that He gave His only begotten Son:

We were all sinners and were under the control of sin. But the love of God wanted to deliver us. It is justful for the one who did sin to be punished. But the son of God who knew no sin become sin so that we become righteous before God (2 Corinthians 5:21). The blood of the sinner needs to be shed for justice to be satisfied. According to the law, for the redemption of a sinner from the slavery of sin, sinless blood should be shed.

And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission. -Hebrews 9:22

The blood of thousands of rams could not save man from his sins (Micah 6:7). The souls were perishing without a Savior. So God sent His own Son to the world to save them. It is not when we were obedient to Him and living according to His statutes. But when we did not obey the laws of God and were unworthy even to be considered by Him, He gave His only begotten Son for the salvation of His people.

For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. -Romans 5:7-8

People may give anything even their hardly earned money to someone as a token of their love. But no one will be ready to give their child not even as a pledge to save someone else who may have done a lot of good things to them. But the love of God for His people made Him sacrifice His only loving son as a propitiation who took over the punishment of human beings upon Himself (Isaiah 53:5).

When Jesus was hanging on the cross with His body completely torn off, the Father hide His face of love for His son as He was carrying the sins of the world. Heavenly Father could not be able to see His only begotten son suffering in the cross.

Father did not see Him as His son when He was carrying the sins of the world. His endless love for mankind made Him consider Jesus as a sacrifice for the sin of the world. Because, He wanted Justice to be satisfied and at the same time, humanity need to be saved. So He laid every punishment upon His son (Isaiah 53:6). Jesus was crying out to His Father, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46). How much grief and pain, the Heavenly Father would have felt?

that whoever believes in Him should not perish:

The work of redemption did not end with the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross. For a sinner to be redeemed from his slavery of sin, he need to believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God and He came to earth as a man to save him. He should believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross carrying all his sins as a sacrifice.

Also he need to confess that Jesus Christ resurrected again from the death and went back to His Father in heaven. When a person believe all these things and accept Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, he will be redeemed from the slavery of sin and escape from eternal death (Romans 10:9).

As Jesus Christ is the only way to the Father, salvation and the right to enter into the presence of God can be received only through Him. We become righteous through the blood of Jesus Christ when we believe in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ (Romans 5:9). When a person become righteous before God, the sin has no control over him. So his soul is now redeemed and thus it is no longer kept for eternal death (Psalm 16:10).

but have everlasting life:

When a person accepts Jesus Christ who died for his sins, He becomes part of God’s family as a child (John 1:12). If he stay strong in the faith he had at the beginning till the end, God has promised to give him everlasting life with Him in heaven as a reward (Hebrews 3:14). He will get the citizenship of the kingdom of God.

To enter into the kingdom of God, a person must born of water and of the spirit (John 3:5). When a person get baptized with water in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, his inner man dies to sin and becomes a new creation in Christ (Colossians 2:12; 2 Corinthians 5:17). Through baptism he puts on the characteristics of Christ within him (Galatians 3:27).

When he goes our in the world, people should be able to see Christ in him. This is the real transformed life and he need to preserve his holiness till the end. It is not possible to stay unspotted and blameless before God on the day of Jesus Christ with our own strength. Thus we must born of the spirit of God so that the spirit of God warns us when we are tempted to sin against God (John 16:8). When a person eagerly long for the Holy Spirit and wait in His presence in prayer, he will be filled with the spirit of God (Luke 11:13).

When a person love and follow the Lord who saved him from the slavery of sin more than anyone in this world, he will be honored by God with everlasting life (Luke 18:29,30). If a person conquer by enduring pain and troubles for the sake of Jesus Christ, he will get the everlasting life at the end as a reward for his love for God (Mark 13:13).
