How to properly PRAY as a Christian
Praise Repent Access Yield
Hebrews 4:16 (KJV) Let us, therefore, come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
First, I want us to understand that prayer is not a ritual. Prayer is spiritual communication between creation and its creator (God and man).
Secondly, prayer is a two-way street, which means we must not only talk to God but also listen to Him.
To effectively pray as a Christian, one must first listen to what God has to say. How do you listen to what God has to say? By not only reading the word of God but also study to show thyself approved a workman that need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
4 steps to Praying Effectively
First, a sacrificial offering.
Praise: Psalm 100:4 (KJV) Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. Praise ushers the soul into worship and worship empties us of self, pride, and fear.
Praise is thanking God for what he has already done. Worship is a deeper and a more intimate connection with God. When you worship, you thank god even if he does not deliver. Habakkuk 3:17-19 (KJV) Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
After sacrifice of praise and worship is offered it’s time to talk to God.
Repent: Psalm 73:2-3 (KJV) But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well-nigh slipped. For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. A spiritual cleansing is needed in order to enter into the Holy place.
After you’ve laid it all out on the table, and have gotten your forgiveness you automatically activate all the promises that God declared over your life.
Access: Isaiah 45 (KJV) Thus saith the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will lose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut; I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:
And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.
We now have access to the infallible protection and provision of Almighty God. What an awesome experience to know God for one’s self. To feel his presence everywhere you go guiding and correcting and refreshing you daily.
Now that you’ve asked and accessed all the promises of God, it’s time to work out your own salvation in fear and trembling.
Yield: Luke 22:42 (KJV) Jesus himself said, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless, not my will, but thine, be done. The fact that we have brought our prayer list before God indicates our trust that He will, in His time and in His way, show us the way we should go.
And finally, whatsoever I fail to ask of thee because of my limitations, fail not to grant it. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
