How to overcome the world as a Christian
I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. John 16:33 (NLT)
There is so much going around us, that it appears as though it is impossible not to fear and be anxious. The world’s economies are shaking, moral decadence is reaching another level, political systems are trembling, hatred and violence are escalating, the church is falling way… the list go on.
Jesus says in all these things you should be of good cheer. Sometimes we might be tempted to think God is taken by surprise by the issues going on in the world today. No, He is not. In fact, He told us long ago that these things will happen and when they begin to happen, we should not be frightened by them.
We may all be living on earth but our life as believers are hidden in Christ Jesus in God. Let us rest in His victory. Our lives are in very powerful and secure hands.
Guard your peace jealously. Do not allow fear and anxiety to take a hold of your heart. Is it possible to be at peace and maintain your joy in the midst of all that is going on? God says “yes, it is possible”.
Can you see that possible for you?
Do you know that if you fear and worry like the world does, you will also share their experience? God is not telling you to be of good cheer so that you can “maintain good spirits”. It is being in good cheer that unleashes spiritual power to overcome circumstances. Your life is a miracle, and you are not like any other person who does not have God with them.
2 Timothy 3:12-14 (NLT) “Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. But evil people and impostors will flourish. They will deceive others and will themselves be deceived. But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you.
God wants you to live in peace in the midst of the chaos of the world. As the world is frightened about wars and rumors of wars, social crises, financial uncertainties, etc. Jesus says, “be of good cheer”. Be still and know He is still God, and He has overcome the world for you!
Your future is in Christ and you should be excited to be living in these days because when sin increases, grace multiplies even more. That means you will experience God in ways that no prior generation has ever experienced Him. Be strong. Be courageous; our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ have overcome the world with all its troubles and anxieties!
