Romans 1:17, Romans 10:17
The first step to growing your faith is spicing up your knowledge of Faith. I must say that faith has been grossly misunderstood and hence miss interpreted. Here is how the bible describes Faith; “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen“
The second thing about Faith I must point out is for faith, the future is here already. It is believing before receiving even without seeing “… blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed” (John 20:29b).
Understanding how Faith comes. Man is a spirit being first who lives in a body and possess a mind. Faith is neither mental nor fleshy, it is spiritual. Most spiritual things are not seen with our physical eyes until they manifest physically. They are rather seen with the eye of the spirit. This however does not mean they are not in existence. In fact, every tangible thing we see today came from an intangibility. “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible”(Hebrews 11:3 NIV).
How Faith comes. “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Roman 10:17). The greatest rivalry of faith is doubt. Doubt is just an evidence of what you accept as possibility. Your possibility is limited to what you know, accept as true and probably what has worked over time. When you accept something as true, you see possibilities and you tend to think about it and by so doing, you can create it. This is why Faith comes by hearing because it exposes you to the actual truth in God’s word and whatever that comes out of such experience has life on its own(John 6:53); something is always created. With Faith, there is virtual creations before physical manifestation.
Growing your Faith.
Feed. You need to hear that thing God said over and over again till it becomes your only possibility. It works like this; say you want to have a good marriage, you just go find out what God says about having a god marriage and His promises and spend time studying, confessing and expanding the capacity of your mind to accept God’s truth. Children need to eat a lot so they can get good nutrients that will foster their growth. Your faith needs to be fed more of “God’s word nutrients” to grow.
Run. Run from whatever that will slide you off Faith. These range from concerns of family and friends to circumstantial counter evidences to thinking and talking negatively, to mention but a few. While you feed your faith, you need to starve your doubt. Often times, we have faith for things that are usually bigger than us, this causes us to depend entirely on God and His word defiling the conditions of our present realities. That’s why you need to shut the door against doubts and distraction and focus entirely on God’s possibilities. “She left him and afterward shut the door behind her and her sons” (2 Kings 4:5 NIV)
Do. Faith is action “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead” (James 2:17). The proof that your faith is alive is that you are exercising it. Like exercise grows muscles, faith grows upon exercising. Begin taking Spirit inspired steps “Faith-wards” (James 2:14-17); acquire knowledge (Proverbs 4:17), use what you have to do what you can at the moment and expect more (James 2:20-22), pray earnestly (James 5:16), never stop believing and confessing your stand (Hebrews 10:23). It will surely come
