“Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.” (Matthew 10:8) Jesus gave these instructions to his disciples after he gave them authority. We are disciples of Christ and when we received the Spirit, we received the same authority that Jesus gave the 12 disciples. We should therefore also, heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those with ailments and drive out demons.
When we received the Spirit of God, we not only received the authority to do these things that Jesus instructed, but we also received comfort. The Holy Spirit is called the Comforter, as Jesus refers to him in John 14:16-17 (AMP) “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever— the Spirit of Truth”. Jesus says, he won’t leave us alone in this world and he sent the Spirit to help us navigate. Apart from the Spirit being our internal comforter, there are also promises about comfort.

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
All through the Bible there are instances of healings, not only within the New Testament, but also in the Old Testament. Stories of the prophets healing people (or even water) either healing a king from leprosy (2 Kings 7-14) or raising a child from the dead (1 Kings 17:17-22). From these stories, or better yet, testimonies in the Bible, be encouraged that healing can and should happen today. Jesus even told us that we will do greater things than he (John 14:12).
When we are going through difficult times, either emotionally, spiritually or physically we should remind ourselves that we have the Comforter inside of us. The Spirit comforts us through our pain and struggles. He gives us wisdom and revelation to navigate our hurt and the situations that cause the hurt. The Spirit comforts those who mourn, the Spirit is sent to us to comfort us because Jesus knew that we had a fight ahead. He asked the Father for the comforter because he knew that we would need it during the spiritual battle.
During times of uncertainty and anxiety, find solace in the knowledge that we have the Spirit, the comforter, and this same Spirit gives us the authority for healing.
