Christians getting involved in politics is not wrong. Some Christian folks believe that politics is too dirty hence Christians should not get themselves involved. This assertion is not biblical. The Word of God says, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan” Proverbs 29: 2. How can you correct the ills in the society if Christians do not vote or avail themselves to be voted for, evil will overwhelm our societies.
When Christians are in positions of authority, they can better help in facilitating the spread of the gospel. This is the number one reason you should come out on Election Day to vote for godly candidates. Remember that Lord’s charge to us Christians to go into the entire world to preach the gospel. “He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation” Mark 16: 15. If ungodly men and women are in authority, they will frustrate all efforts by Christians to fulfill this command.
Again, during elections, when all the candidates seem to be Christians, you must allow the Spirit of God to guide you on who to vote for. As you pray, the Holy Spirit that sees the heart and intent of man, will guide you to vote for those that would favor God’s righteous course while in government. “Let them shout for joy and be glad, Who favor my righteous cause; And let them say continually, “Let the LORD be magnified, Who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant” Psalm 35: 27.
In some instances, the Body of Christ in particular society might decide to sponsor or chose a particular candidate to vote for during an election. They do this believing that that candidate would get to government to represent the interest of the Church. In this kind of situation, as a Christian, this is the candidate you should vote for. “Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you” 1 Thessalonians 3: 1.
It will be irresponsible of you to vote contrary to what the Christians in that society decided. “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people” Proverbs 14: 34.
By the Spirit of God you will know the political party of candidates that will promote peace, prosperity, and restrain evil for you to vote for. A careful look into their manifesto will help you know their agenda while in government. “Seek the welfare of the city I have deported you to. Pray to the LORD on its behalf, for when it has prosperity, you will prosper” Jeremiah 29: 7. No matter the incentives or persuasion to vote for a political party or candidates that will promote ungodly agenda in office, maintain your Christian virtues to for the truth. You cannot be a Christian and vote for a political party or candidates that favor and promote homosexuality. That would be a sin.
